Playing the drums is all about two things : timing and co-ordination and one thing is no good without the other. THE DRUMMER's main purpose is to keep time for all the other musicians in the band and that is first and formost. All the co-ordination and technique in the world is useless if you can't keep a steady beat.
Co-ordination can be learned by anyone but timing is more of an innate feeling that you either have or you don't. In my opinion almost everyone has a sense of rhythm. It is very rare to find some one who has no conception of timing. If you can tap your foot to the music or if you can dance, you can learn to play the drums.
